It is in that little old building that used to be a gas station right before you get to Oneal's, at least that is where I saw the sign!!

I think it's a great Idea. Maybe do this, give a discounted rate to in county businesses and and higher rate to out of county businesses. Please understand that I'm not arguing against you, but this type of idea comes up a lot in politics. Please forgive my soapbox. What is the underlying purpose of doing something like this? Why discriminate against geography or proximity? If we support better products and service, don't we all benefit in the long run? If we support lesser quality, then don't we all suffer the consequences? It's like an old leadership axiom: "behavior that is rewarded tends to be repeated". Why reward inferior service and why punish success simply because someone lives beyond a certain geographical boundary? I agree that it's a good thing to help out our neighbors but there are many ways to do that, including being honest and straightforward: "look bro, you just can't compete, either go to work for the competition or find a new and better way to do it". We should support a better product. But I consider a better product something that I know of its origins and how it was grown. Sure you can get organic tomatoes from California, but what about labor issues? Sometimes they have great produce and then treat their workers like crap. I want to buy quality food from a farm I can visit and a farmer I can talk to face to face. Usually its easier to do that when its local. And if I don't like what a local farmer is doing I have a better chance of making a difference in the way he grows if I can talk to him and help him understand my concerns. I just have a hard time believing there are so many items that we cannot produce here in our town. We have to do what works for us. If it doesn't work good in our town, then we'll have to try it another way, or go without. An example being seasonal food. Eating a seasonal diet probably has benefits beyond my capability of explaining. We get a change of nutrients for summer and winter, we don't get bored with the same old food. We have something to anitcipate in the coming season. Our culture now is an instant-gratification society. Pretty much anything you want, at anytime of the year, from around the globe can be had. Take a look at our current society and tell me what, if any, effect this has on us. ((Hope I'm not off subject here. Sorry, it tends to happen.))

We should support a better product. But I consider a better product...And really, that's what it's all about. You want to spend your money on what is valuable to YOU. And if enough people think that way, a successful business is born.

It is getting to where I cant afford to go local. I live in Pinetta and go out of my way to buy stuff in madison and Pinetta to support locals but it is starting to cost me to much money. From my house it 5 miles to Pinetta and 6 to the Clyatville store. The last 2 times I went to Pinetta they charged me an extra $.50 surcharge to use my debit card (for a $30+ purchase). I like the owner and want to buy from him so I have been paying more money for the same product I can get at Clyatville and now I have to give $.50 more to use my card. Local business is forcing me to go elswhere as I can get the same product cheaper and not pay the $.50 charge plus I can gas up at the same time.
Local Business owners are forcing us to go elsewhere.

Money is a joke. We need to stop using it. Its not backed by gold or silver or anything anyway. Its worthless paper. The only way it has value is by how much is in circulation. And the Fed regulates that. So basically they have us by the, ahem, crotch.
We should set up a Trade Station, where people of Madison can come and trade used goods and foodstuff and clothing, ect. They can trade the items in for other items they need in the store or for credits. I don't know the way the entire system would work, but it sure beats using Federal Notes.
I guess they could be used as toilet paper.....its made of 75% linen and 25% cotton.

I don't think I'll be using fed reserve notes for toilet paper.... it's so toxic, they are no longer allowed to even burn it. So they shred it and give it away as souvenirs.
But I like the idea of a trade station.
Any of you long timers know if there was ever a successful flea market here?

I was curious if anyone has or is a member of Magnolia Farms in Live Oak? Its the closest CSA (community supported agriculture) that I could find to Madison.

I have been there once. I have also heard a few people talk about it and they didn't seem real impressed. I thin kthe farm might be in need of some help or funds.

Papermoon you said and I corrected: I think the farm might be in need of some help or funds. THERE IS THAT DARNED MONEY AGAIN! Well notice I said HELP first. Money is all the sheeple know. Money rules us. If someone is interested in the farm I say go out there and look for yourself.

Everyone is whining about saving money...well what are you investing in? A sustainable future? If not, then your efforts are futile and I will pray for your mercy when the One World Gov't has its takeover.
