Maybe someone can tell me what the duties of Animal Control are?
I have an animal that has been digging under my house, so I borrowed a trap from someone and made it a PBJ sandwich and placed the trap by the hole. Sure enough this morning I caught a big ole Possum!
Thinking I was doing the right thing I called Animal Control this morning to see if they would come pick it up and do whatever they needed to do with it.
You see I am a woman on my own and am not able to pick the trap up. So I called for some assistance. I was told that they were busy but they would be by sometime today. No problem.
Then I receive a call back stating that I needed to find someone to come get it and relocate it as that was all they would do anyway. Duh!
OK so now I have had to call a male friend who is going to take pity on me and come get it.
Guess I was way off base calling Animal Control, I mean after all I do pay county taxes and have never utilized their services. Well maybe I should say lack of services!!!!!!

We called them a few months ago because someone had dumped a couple of dead dogs on the side of our dirt road.......and needless to say no one ever came. Nature eventually took care of it, but it was quite disturbing nonetheless, and most likely the result of animal abuse. I guess looking into things like that is not their 'job' either.

I have live trapped several stray cats & when I call them they say they have no one available to come get them . They then tell me to bring the cats to animal control .

I didn't even know we had an animal control here. Seriously, dead animals beside the roads (some IN the roads).... stray cats by the bus loads at all the gass stations. One would never guess there is a service available from what they see here.
I'm suprised they didn't tell you possums are now on the endangered species list and fine you for trapping it lol... it's only a matter of time ......this world is upside down!

Madison County Animal Control is also Madison County Mosquito Control and is manned by one person. Maybe we need to ask the County Clerk to increase the budget for this department and give them more help. I have always had great service from the Animal Control.

It truly is funny but the Critter Website I went to said you could catch anything with a PBJ Sandwich, so I made him one, and caught him on the first try!!! LMAO And I only make that manicotti for my human critters!!!!!

MikeK,
Ok I have to do this!!!!
When I was a kid my daddy and I used to fish, I would always make those "Dough Balls" out of Wonder Bread, ooooh dating myself!!!! Used to feed the fish with those things as they would just fall apart when they hit the water, but it was funny to my dad!!!
When my kids were younger we went to a cabin at the lake for a 2wk vacation in NH, well they wanted to fish from the dock and I did not have any bait, so I looked in the fridge and there was some Italian Sausage, so I cut it up and put it in the pan, for just a little bit so it would not fall apart, and sent them down to the dock with their Italian Sausage and poles!!! They were pulling fish out left and right, no lie!!!
My son lives in Norfolk, has a boat, fishes all the time and only uses partially cooked ITALIAN SAUSAGE!!! Has a freezer full of fish!!!
So this is my "Family Secret" I'm am sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

I guess having only one person doing the job explains why I have to avoid hitting at least a dozen dogs driving to town everyday. There is no way one person could pick up the ridiculous number of dogs running around on county roads. Most of these animals have collars on, I know this because they run toward cars when they see them coming, so I know they belong to someone. I drive my son and two other children to school everyday, and would hate to run over someones pet with them as witnesses. I really think though that the pet owners should be more responsible. If they take on the responsibility of a pet it should not be able to roam freely on Dusty Miller and other roads. It would break my heart to kill a family pet but it would be worse to wreck my car with my child and two others in it trying to not hit it. When my husband and I bought our house the first thing we did was put a fence around the back yard so that our beloved pets could safely go outside and would not be a nuisance to the neighborhood. Sorry this kind of goes off subject but it has bothered me for a while. O and Elmo I too laughed at the PB&J and remember fishing with the little "dough balls"

We just got a dog from The Suwannee Rvier Humane Shelter but before we brought him home we had our yard fenced so that he could not get out.
Now every night we have someone else's dog digging under the fence to get in and eat his food. I understand that there are more dogs in Madison County than people.
I don't see how one person can take all the animal control calls and control the mosquitos as well. He is probably like our police officers understaffed and underpaid.
You are right Canadian Bacon people should be more responsible.
I am off to my fish pond tomorrow with "dough balls" and check it out.

Well I wonder if the animal control gets any City of Madison tax money to control the animals inside the city limits. Anyone know??

Canadianbacon, travel that road often on my journey to Valdosta or Lake Park and I am always dogging dogs, heck I know of one that just lays in his front yard waiting for that car chase!! And yes you are right, responsible pet ownership or should I say lack of is a huge problem.
Oh and by the way, I was trying to save the Possum's life by having him relocated, which he has been, instead of asking one of my gun toting neighbors to shoot it. I sure hope he is not like a lost dog or cat that finds his way back home!!!!! LOL
