This is nice to be able to get on this board and not be blasted with religious rhetoric. It is very refreshing.

This is nice to be able to get on this board and not be blasted with religious rhetoric. It is very refreshing. Isn't it though. I have to post a comment concerning the WCTV posts about the Greenes and then I will leave it alone (unless of course someone else's post deserves a response). I know that some folks out there are upset about the negativity that some Madison residents have voiced about the Greene family, but I am sure that it is helping Lisa to be strong seeing them. She has felt alone for so long and just knowing that there are folks that support her, even if they are anonymous and faceless, is encouraging. I for one am proud of her for finally standing up to William and doing what should have been done a long time ago before it got to the point where a gun was involved. She admits she has faults, as we all do, but nobody should be treated as she has been. Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts on this terrible situation.

I pointed out to the people that you speak of that are upset. They should realize that there must be some problems here that have gone unchecked for a very long time that they don't understand. It's not mob mentality per say.

Well, I can't resist jumping in here, being a generally curmudgeonly person to begin with. First, I thought I was the only one who noticed a total lack of the Michael Stick story in the so-called newspaper and was glad to see one person ask about that on the WCTV site. Did I miss the story in the local paper? Speaking of the paper, it should absolutely be called "The Greenelife Daily" with perhaps "all about us; our opinions only" underneath. The wife and daughter take huge chunks of space in which they wish their relatives happy birthday, regale us with tales of their relatives, and share their thoughts about their relatives. Then there is the full page about Florida history--interesting, but not news.
Jacob, learn how to use commas. Study up; read a book about punctuation. If that's too much trouble, it might also work if you just omit every other comma that you use. Commas don't mean "here's where I would pause to take a breath if I were saying this out loud."
One more paper complaint, and I know I am in the minority here. I am repulsed by seeing photos in every issue this time of year of men or children holding up the heads of dead deer. This is gruesome to those of us who don't take pride and joy in killing wildlife, however necessary it may be. I don't see them posting photos of John Lewis holding up the head of a dog he has just put down, regardless of how necessary it was. I have read a fair number of local papers and this disgusting practice is not often found elsewhere.
I have lived in this county for 29 years. I am very disappointed at the lack of non-church-based activities. If it's not sponsored by the church, it's not going to fly here. As far as I can tell, based on the calendar in the paper, there are no book clubs, no walking/running/hiking clubs, no bicycling clubs, no photography clubs, no travel clubs. There is a quilting club and a gardening club, but what about a club where you actually move around? There is a club for RC planes...requiring that you own one... Is there fun stuff going on and I just don't know about it?
Well, enough venting from me, thanks for the new forum site. Despite my griping, I do like things about this county. There are people here who will go "above and beyond" to help you--we've had a repair person come out on Christmas day to replace a burned-out water heater coil; post office folks will call you if they see an error on something you are sending, rather than letting it just take a week to go through the system and be returned to you.
It's just too bad that change is so frightening to so many.

Hey, thanks reallife.
Ok, your welcome has compelled me to add a postscript about my club rant (and really, this is just between you and me) (and the 7 people who have ever been on this board at once....).
There is a 55+ club here. This is a club I could be a member of (yeah, yeah, I'm old). I always read their agenda, as listed in the paper either prior to meetings or as a report of a meeting. People come and talk to them about HMOs, childproofing their home so grandchildren are safe, keeping their insurance up-to-date, the deadly signs of a stroke, the importance of dietary supplements, how to safely clean their ovens, whether socks are better off rolled or folded, and other bits of vital, if stultifyingly boring, information. I want to start my own 55+ club (see my above post for why this will never come to be). Here is my 55+ club's agenda:
1. In early fall, we will rent a few cabins at Suwannee River State Park for a weekend (those who camp can reserve in the campground). During the day on Saturday, those who wish can go boating, hiking, or enjoy the peace to read a good book. Everyone will bring food. On Saturday evening we will all gather on one of the porches and have cocktails/soft drinks/water (Jacob won't be joining us, no worries!) and talk about what we did that day. Then we will all have the great dinner that we all contributed to, sitting inside or on the porch or at a picnic table outside the cabin. After dinner we will build a fire outside and those who wish can sit around it and continue talking--or just go to bed early. At the risk of being overly offensive, all praying would be done silently or in private and not forced upon everyone attending.
2. In early summer we will rent a large house on St. George Island. Essentially the same trip as above but with warmer weather, bike rentals, and dinner might be on the beach, bugs permitting.
3. We will plan a trip to Wakulla Springs State Park, where we will take the boat tour and then have lunch or dinner in the restaurant.
4. We will plan trips to Birdsong, and to St. Marks NWR for the Monarch Festival.
5. We will not sit in a room and be lectured to--we are 55+ and have had enough of that. If we want to hear about something from an expert, it will be about how to tell if your house is haunted, how to tickle a fish, or how to make wine in a spare room closet. We might hire a palm reader or tarot card reader or even a hypnotist, just for fun.
As you can imagine, there is no way this club could exist here. I still don't really get why....but there you go.

WHAT A HOOT!!! In the above post, I actually suggested that we could sit around having...hmmm. how to write this....uh, the usual word for before-dinner alcoholic drinks. Apparently this forum program will not allow slang, and so when I read my post online, I was suggesting that we have "penistails" on the porch!!! (Of course I went back and changed my wording.) My laugh o' the day....

Just think if it had been a post about rooster fights..... Or perhaps quoting the sound the neighbor's rooster makes.... Or perhaps preparing a pistol for firing....
Have a good week!

Nice video, reallife. As a Photoshop user, I have to ask if you used that for the cube effect and also for your water reflection effect in your avatar?
I told a friend about the board, hopefully we will have another participant!
