I was curious if anyone else was mildly outraged at the idea that there is going to be a 'charity' children's beauty pageant in which there are going to be judging categories in perfect photogenic, perfect smile, perfect facial features, perfect attire, and perfect eyes!!! I have absolutely nothing against trying to get some sort of event to raise money for a good cause (although I must confess I am not familiar with the Florida State Employee's Charitable Campaign). But really! Is this really the best way to 'judge children'?! Based upon physical characteristics that they have NO control over.

It almost sounds perverted. What "adult" would think of this and what was their motivation? Plus the major self-esteem issues it will cause these children one day.
I sure hope they do background checks on the judges. Make sure they're people that are allowed to be around children.
I've heard of the Florida State Employee's Charitable Campaign but, not sure what it is. I think it has to do with the United Way. Not sure though.

Years ago I entered my 4 year old lil beauty in a pageant because we thought it would be a fun memory. This wasn't a charitable one, it was a serious one & boy was it ever serious! Those kids were trained to respond to their 'handler'... in most cases "mom" by the slightest glance of an eye, they turned, stopped, posed, smiled and turned on the attitude with practiced, precision. I felt so bad for those kids. I've seen dog & pony shows where the animals were not trained as well. Needless to say we only did it once. I raised my kids to think for themselves and to express themselves by being themselves. Me personally, I have no stomach for beauty padgeants at any age level ... but that's just me, those that are into that sort of thing can rock on. But I also agree, I hope they are vetting those people & protecting the children from perverts.
