i think this is impersonating a police officer. These cars don't have any markings on them, so as unmarked police cars. I just wonder when will the blue lights be added so they can be used in a crime ? like trying to stop someone on a remote area and robbing or raping someone. Several officers I see wear plain clothing. Is this not a reason to suspicious of these unmarked vehicles? Hard to tell what is fake and what is real.

Yes this is a problem. These cars, once referred to as "Thug mobiles", are riding around with the push bar on the front bumper and the spotlight on the driver's side door. At night they look just like a cop.
I once did a video of Sheriff Ben Stewart warning people about this problem. He also informed everyone that the Madison County Sheriff's Office trades their cars into a dealer that only sells them to smaller police departments that have small budgets. None of the ex-Madison cars go to "the thugs".
I lived in Baltimore Maryland for a while and there the cops drove their own cars. You could get pulled over by a Yugo with a magnetic light stuck on the roof. There was an occasional fake cop but he was caught and dealt with.
Madison County has no unmarked Crown Victorias. Madison Police Dept. has two- Chief Rick Davis and Willie McGhee drive plain white ones.

The only problem I have is that sooner or later its going to happen.People are aware of this and some one is going to not stop for the real law and get into trouble. It will happen.

dobbie,
when is the last time you actually heard of a rape or death caused by use of the fake cop cars? I mean, sure it can happen, but seriously, why the knee-jerk reaction here?
Cops wear plain clothes many times - should we be wary of plain clothed people that look like cops? Should we have an investigative task force our looking for plain clothed people that may look like police officers who might potentially rape, pillage or plunder citizens?
I understand what you're saying but I'm not sure it's a problem that couldn't be solved by encouraging common sense.

Sooooo that Black one with the two huge pipes sticking out the back, one almost dragging the ground, the huge dent in the rear passenger door and the shiny shiny rims...not to mention the torn tint on the driver door- isn't a cop?

U call 911 from your cell if you have one, give them your location and a description of the vehicle trying to stop you, dispatch will know if that is an officer, and don't stop, turn your emergency signals on and continue to drive to a safe well lit place, or to the police department if you know where that is.

I forget right off hand, but a few days ago I read or seen on the news where a person was dressed like a cop and was pulling over females. No it hasn't happened in this area yet and hope it don't. The trade centers had never been blown up either but it happened.

Close but ill expand on it a little. In a rural community if a car runs up behind you and puts blue lights on you, you can't always tell if it is marked or not and give a description. If in doubt and in town find a well lit place with people around like the jiffy or Winn Dixie to stop at. If on a country road dial 911 and put your flashers on. You can slow down but not so much that you make the situation dangerous for everyone. While doing so find a house with a light on and pull in the driveway and close to the door so that the occupants will know your there. If during the contact you feel doubtful then express that to the 911 dispatcher and honk your horn so the occupants of the house will be alerted. If you do one of these things a fake will most likely immediately disengage and leave the area if they even try to make contact at all. Again running into a fake in this are is possible but not probable so not much need to worry if you see blue lights, just be vigilantly cautious. If while talking to the officer you get suspicious crack your window and let the officer know you want to verify there identity with 911. Every real officer will understand and let you get them on the phone. A fake will walk away and drive off every time. I forget right off hand, but a few days ago I read or seen on the news where a person was dressed like a cop and was pulling over females. No it hasn't happened in this area yet and hope it don't. The trade centers had never been blown up either but it happened. skidrow you must have forgotten the February 26,1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. It did happened before so your example was pointless.
