This was sent to me, please sign and forward to all your contacts. Special request - please read! On Tuesday, August 18, 1987, Daniel Burns, Jr. and Samuel Williams were returning to Detroit from Ft. Myers when Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Jeffrey D. Young pulled them over on Interstate 75 in Manatee County . According to Williams’ testimony, Trooper Young approached their vehicle and asked for identification. Trooper Young then returned to his patrol car where he radioed dispatch for a wanted persons search and a registration check on Burns’ Michigan tag. Trooper Young then asked Burns if he could search the vehicle, and Burns consented. Upon searching the trunk and finding what appeared to be cocaine, Trooper Young and Burns began to struggle. Based on numerous eyewitness accounts, Burns wrestled Young to the ground in a water-filled ditch, grabbed the trooper’s gun and aimed it at his head. On his knees, begging for mercy, Young was shot point-blank in the face. The bullet deflected off his wedding band. Trooper Young was dead by the time additional troopers arrived at the scene. Medical examiners testified that the shot was fired at such a close range as to leave gunpowder on Trooper Young’s face. Burns fled on foot and was apprehended later that night. Williams testified that Burns was making several trips to Florida in order to purchase $10,000 worth of cocaine. The family of Trooper Young has initiated a petition requesting Florida Governor Charlie Crist to expedite the execution of Daniel Burns for the cold-blooded murder of Trooper Young. Burns was convicted of first degree murder and still sits on death row today, after 22 years of appeals and hearings at taxpayer’s expense. Trooper Young, who was 28 years old at the time of his death, was survived by his wife and daughter. I have signed the petition Keith. It is time for us taxpayers to stop supporting this killer. 22 years is way too long. It is not a matter of an eye for an eye. It is about choices and consequences. He made a choice knowing what the consequences would be so now it is high time for the consequences to happen.

Matthew 5:21 "You have heard that the ancients were told, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER ' and 'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.'
Leviticus 24:20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him.

Leviticus 24:20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him. I was unaware you needed a Bible to pray. Why can't people just pray for one another? Why do you have to bring biblical quotes into the situation? So because the Bible says it ok to inflict pain upon someone else because we feel that we have been wronged, then its ok? And just because he is wasting your "tax dollars" then we should just kill him? In my opinion, no. I don't believe you can overcome hate with more hate. It will be a temporary solution, not a lasting one. You'll feel better because you have "served justice", but there will always be more hate. Why not promote a peaceful solution? I'm not trying to argue here. Just trying to show the other side of the coin. I don't know the case or whatever, I just don't believe in capital punishment. Anyone quick to jump to the conclusion of "death is the answer!," personally, scares me a little. Maybe the guy was on drugs at the time, totally out of his mind. Maybe he has changed. People do change you know. Maybe he found this Jesus you speak of in your bible. Maybe he deserves a second chance. I don't have all the answers, but murder doesn't seem like a good one to me. |

Why don't you focus on the WAR on drugs. Or the War on guns, or poverty. Dont you get it? Whenever we wage war on these things THEY DONT GET BETTER. Its only a temporary solution. Do you know how much money is made by the government on drug raids, etc? Do you actually think they don't want drugs??? Turn off your TV, stop being influenced by the mainstream media, do some research and think outside the box, then get back to me. Thanks.

Laura - too bad the police officer didn't get a second chance don 't you think  ? He was executed in cold blood and I for one as a taxpayer resent having to support his killer for 22 years. If he was on drugs at the time or stoned out of his mind that was a choice he made too and there are consequences for the choices we make in life. The Police officer chose to put his life on the line to protect you and me and he knew what the consequences could be and he paid the ultimate price. I do believe in capital punishment and hope he is executed very soon. Wonder what you would be saying if you were the daughter of this police officer and he killed your dad before you were old enough to really now him?? Where would you be today without your dad? Also you say that you do not believe in paying taxes. Are you expecting me, a taxpayer, to feed this bum another 22 years or are you going to get a job and pitch in? |

I will tell you all that about ten years ago my house was visited by two guys at about 8pm. No I did not invite them - their guns did. Laura - when you have gone through such an experience then you will change your mind. I am in favor of IMMEDIATE execution - like they do in a lot of christian countries around the world. You need to move out of your parents home and meet the real world.

Laura I think you are confused. You were the one praying for us. Like I said get a job, get out on your own, grow up and help us taxpayers feed this bum if you want him to stay in prison. You are straddling the fence here. Which is it - are you going to get a job and pay taxes to support this man, execute him for murdering a fellow man or set him free to come and kill your dad?

I apoligize for my last comment. It was inappropriate.
I have a job. I'm just not a slave to the system like most people are. Maybe if you didn't support what you don't like with your taxes, then the execution would be expedited.
You seem to be the one straddling the fence with your actions. You say you want him gone, yet you continue to support him with your tax dollars.

Leviticus is the Old testament, not the new. The new states this. "You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also" People tend to forget that. It doesn't say the court can't decide the death penalty I am not saying he doesn't deserve to die, I think he certainly does. He could have shot the officer somewhere else to disable him. Laura, don't get frustrated and vent your anger in a post you meant to be intelligent. |
