HEY JOHN - SO TED PROMOTES THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER AND THEY ARE NOT MEMBERS OF THE CHAMBER. HE DOES NOT EVEN RECOGNIZE YOU AND YOU ARE A MEMBER. NOW THE CHAMBER IS PROMOTING BARKSDALE FARM AND ACCORDING TO THE MEMBER LIST AT 610PM ON OCTOBER 16th – THE BARKSDALE FARMS IS N0T A MEMBER OF THE CHAMBER.
I guess to be recognized by the chamber and to get business in Madison County the best thing you can do is NOT belong to the chamber. Then they will do everything they can to promote you and your business. Elmer

You can add Rotary to that list also and all the work the Chamber has done to promote their 5th Saturdays. They only recenlty became a Chamber member.

Elmer - Your first comment has been shown publicly along with the times that I would see an ad in the local paper that I knew nothing about and call to confront the Chamber. I got used to it.
The Barksdale Farm was an ad run by Sandy, who has put in her notice to leave the Chamber at the end of the month. She sent it from her private email on her own time. She said to pick up tickets from the Chamber or The Mailroom but I think it's all going through her.

My guess is because the bank presidents that help sponsor all the 5th Saturday's are in rotary and other assorted Chamber members that they feel will help them in some financial way as long as they play the game. Though Rotary does a lot of great things around the world and the commercials imply that everyday people are members, the reality of the Madison Rotary is that it is one big room full of people that have the better paying jobs and is used as one giant networking meeting. That's my guess.

If Sandy is leaving the Chamber I assume they will be hiring the lady that volunteers. I sure hope so as she is great and certainly deserves the job.

Sorry geegee. Ted does NOT want to hire the volunteer - I have heard she is very good - he wants her to continue volunteering and he wants to hire the girl that made a really funny statement that can be seen elsewhere on this site- I GUESS HE FEELS THAT THE VOLUNTEER IS NOT WORTH PAYING! Elmer

I understand that the new fish market in Pinetta is already closed.

Yea - the fish market is closed. Also a business recently was located on the North East corner of Base and Washington was open for about two months and closed their doors. I do not remember anything about either of these two busineses being promoted. I DO NOT READ THE LOCAL RAG. If the non-chamber rag is the only place that they know anything about I will never know. I know that business is bad and I have predicted that it will get worse. Hopefully I am wrong. In the meantime it would be nice if the chamber would PROMOTE MADISON BUSINESSES. While they spend valuable time dreaming of a fair grounds and a welcome center and all other things that we can not afford the county businesses are dying. I just saw a suggestion on another thread about forming a new chamber. This may be the time. I believe that the attitude in the community is ripe for a change.

Don't you think it is funny that the chamber not trying to find someone to fill the old Dixie packers plant, Lowndes is courting one that would be perfect, looking for site just like this. But good old chamber, never has recruited anyone, never will.

Mr. Ensminger todl the county commissioners today that he had a new TDC application and there were no limits as to how many grants someone could get. Since he is a Rotarian and there are 2 Rotarians on the TDC board looks like Rotary have just gotten unlimited grants. They have have 4 already and the rules used to be limited to 3. Does this look fishy to anyone other than me?

I think when you see a certain banker on every board Madison County has; it makes our stagnation even more curious.

I say we get rid of the Small town politics and what I call a "private government" Why is everything one sided and secretive and hush hush here. There is obviously a second agenda for some people to keep businesses and growth out. Madison County needs some one with big boy pants on to get the show on the road!
