the only way to succeed in Madison county is to lie and munipulate some one else. Election time will come again and I wish some old country folks hard working and honest would run for office. I wonder if Madison County has connection with the nations capital?

Oh I don't know about that; I think those kind of people are in the minority in Madison. Good old fashioned Southern work ethic has long been a solid foundation to come from around here. That glass really is half full when you open your eyes and see those who are out for themselves are in small numbers. We all need to gather to bring good back into power in this county. Those who have tapped into our money, gained power and live in greed are only as strong as we allow them to be.

You can't change much when the majority & people in power are not ready for it and do not want it.
That is the biggest problem in Madison County.

Welcome to the POW Camp Located in Madison County, FL. LOL
Cows Rule, the issue is removing the fear of those in power from the people who are good hearted.
Good hearted only helps if you have the courage to not fear those in power.

I have lived in Madison my entire life and I love this county. My family has been here since 1845, but I must say that my wife and I sometimes regret not leaving this county before our kids became a part of the place. It used to be a great place to live but a terrible place to make a living. I fear that it is now becoming a terrible place to live as well. The sense of community is declining and the county government is becoming even more unresponsive to the public while our taxes continue to climb. I don't know what the "good" people of Madison can do to turn things around at this point when our elected officials ignore us.

Cade49, I have lived in Madison my entire life also and my family as well and I must agree with you. There are so many greedy people here in Madison that do not want change and have people deceived. My husband and I are Blessed to have a household income of over 140 thousand dollars a year. We need to stop being one sided and demand change in this town as a one.

I have made this point for awhile in the MFV...Madison is so far behind other municipalities and only a select few profit from the situation as is...We need wholesale changes and forward thinking at all levels of our government (city/county). We the people will be forever caught in this time warp of the past, if we don't demand and make changes immediately.

Well, apparently ya'll are not very happy down here at Shangri-La. But when you find the Emerald City, let me know 'cause I'm tired of having to pay taxes and have the govment telling me what to do too!
And when ya get there, the Dorty and Toto I said hi.
What kind of make-believe place do you think Madison should be? One with no government, no taxes, no services?
You folks need to pack up and move somewhere else for awhile, heck just to Tallahassee or jacksonville, ya ain't gotta go far. You know what, move over there and go try to call the sheriff, or go sit down a county commissioners house and talk about something. Man you folks are living in a dream world, ya don't do anything but complain on an online chat board.
Heck, ya want change, run for office, move, do something besides complain.
Ya want to know how to make it in Madison, do ya?
First thing is you have to want to make it. Once you make up your mind on that, you can make it, with time and hard work.
That's how you do it!
Don't belive, look around and see who's making it, it's not the people sitting around and complaining all the time, that's for sure.
Anywho, back to work.

nah, I prefer to complain, and I have tried doing stuff about it.
No one needs to move instead of complain. The Voice was founded because of a complaint, therefore complaints are useful.
If you don't like them, blame freedom of speech.
Who is making are many people and many of them complain because things could be much better and they know it.
They also know that most people don't like to step out of their safe zones and try new things, they would rather listen to someone tell them how they think it should go and then say, that sounds good, we will do that, instead of trying something new.
Now Think about walmart. Why does valdosta have 2? Because it's close to madison and they figured since Madison didn't want one, they would build another in Valdosta that was close enough to reach the customers from the Cherry Lake/Pinetta/Madison Area that it would make a profit and they did.
Madison Doesn't want it for obvious reasons. Lets say the Walmart was one with the gas station and the tire/oil shop and a suntrust bank and say subway inside.
Well that makes profit harder for the 3 tire shops in Madison. It makes it harder for the 6 gas stations in the city and the others surrounding it to make a profit. the subway would kill whichever one it is closer to.
It would create more jobs but it would kill a few local businesses and that is why Walmart is not here.
Everyone is happy about the Pizza hut, KFC, Hungry Howies, MCD's, BK, Subway, Wendy's that is in Madison. But what they don't realize is that, these restuarants are all franchise restuarants that do not require alcohol in their franchise licenses which means that the profit doesn't go to the corporation, but to whoever in the county/area opened it up and that is why they are allowed in here because someone with money/power/position in the county has a piece of that pie.

Magnusalistir, you are right that no perfect place exists and those of us that complain could move out of the county but I choose to live here. It is because I care for Madison that I complain and for the record, I have and will continue to work to make Madison a better place. Discontent can be a force for positive change. Oscar Wilde said “Discontent is the first step in the progress of a man or a nation”.
Your post makes it sound like that those of us that complain are lazy and don’t want to “make it”. We are doing much more than just complaining. Both my wife and I are college educated professionals that have “made it”, so your accusation could not be more false. I have been blessed to travel to many cities in this country and to Europe many times. I have seen many things that would be good for the people of Madison if only we could move forward. I love to study history and the past is a great place to visit in our minds, but we can’t live there.
Making it is so much more than getting elected to public office and then going into “power save” mode and doing as little as possible. We have some public official that I think are good people. Personally, I can’t say enough good things about our Sheriff, Ben Stewart. I think he has shaken-up the department and is making some major improvements. There are others that I will not mention that are supposed to represent my district that do absolutely nothing but collect a check.
There is good and bad in the county but economic and social progress will not come our way unless we at least voice our complaints. Thanks to the Madison Voice and technology, everyone can voice our likes and dislikes. We can do this without fear of retribution. This forum has given me hope that people may be waking up and beginning to see that we must identify what we don’t like about our county and then work to bring about specific change. In any case, I will not be silent anymore!
