What is racist? Comments made because of race color or creed?Or is it merely stating the truth. I have friends of, should I say different color of skin, and would help anyway I can. Is wearing a shirt or cap with a rebel flag on it raciest? Hey lets get it done? 2009 is almost over, lets get to the real issues of life. SURVIVAL

Hi Dobbie, good question.
You should speak the truth. But since there is no scientific data to support a causation between skin color and behavior, then it wouldn't be true to suggest such. In other words, a person's behavior is not the result of their race, but rather a combination of cultural traditions, values, and mores.
Stereotypes have some merit or they wouldn't catch on. Redneck culture is full of them but its a matter of geographic association, not skin color. Today we see all sorts of evidence of cross-cultural blending. Like the white suburban kids acting like rappers, or inner city folks driving four-wheel drives that never leave the pavement.
Some cultures are clearly "worse" than others. For instance, some African cultures still practice female genital mutilation. Some cultures still practice animal sacrifice. And some cultures promote racialism and ethnocentrism.
When making comments or criticisms, it's important to clearly articulate what it is you're criticizing. Taking offense at someone's skin color is holding them responsible for something in which they have no control. Criticizing behavior focuses on something that can change.
