Elmo, my friend. Good day to you.
Please don't discount my pondering outright. Give it a few moments.
First, parents with means share something in common with like parents in Tallahassee, Miami, Atlanta, Boston and Tokyo. If they can afford it, they will spend the money to offer their children the best educational experience that they can. That's what parents do. And if parents in Madison would prefer to send their children to private schools instead of paying their Chamber dues, God bless them.
Your post had a Norman Rockwell taste to it. I like Norman Rockwell. Norman Rockwell was a friend of mine. (oops, that just slipped out.)
Let's be real, buddy. Yeah, it would be great if.............
But to fix this problem, some feelings are going to be hurt, some egos will be bruised and some people are going to loose their jobs. THAT is not going to happen here unless the State is standing over the situation with the threat to hurt even more feelings, bruise even more egos and fire more people.
If it could be done without State help, it would have been done by now.
Maybe the lesson that we teach the kids is that sometimes the only way to fix a problem is to start all over again. I don't think that that is such a bad lesson.
By the way, the State will not be the one doing the cleaning. They just come in with the wrecking balls, pink slips, mops and brooms. Then they point at the mess, say "Clean it up" and expect it to be done. (Look at it as close workplace supervision.)
I don't think that that is such a bad lesson to teach the kids either.
BTW, if we get another "F", all parents can afford private school. Read: VOUCHERS.
Have a great day.

Sad but probably a true picture of a county/town that demand very little from people in position of authority (parents included) to make a difference in the lives of our children.

Oh Eddie, just so you know, before my kids came to this county and school system they had been in private school for 8yrs in another county, but with the cost and other religious factors we chose not to put them in private school here. Thanks to their previous school and home discipline it worked out, but it was a struggle with the school and teachers to make sure they were getting the best they could get. So I am all for the Vouchers, the education is the most important thing, however it is best achieved!!!!!
And back to that discipline, school uniforms a must, it could just be a pair of blue slacks and a collared polo, but the dang shirt must be tucked in, and a belt! Take that peer pressure away and the total disrespect of the pants hanging down around your knees. That would be my first start.
And you are probably right, it may take the state stepping in, taking numbers and kicking ass for this to improve, whatever it takes at this point. In this county and others nationwide, or we can call our way of life goodbye, Oh that's right, it looks like that is the way it is headed anyway!!!!!!! I never imagined I would see the mess we are in right now. That is another thread, and one I need to stay off my soapbox on, LOL

Eddie, you got a dang good point. I like your thinking, lol. Only problem is, they seem to do just enough not to get the 2nd needed F and then slide back after a year or 2.

That's why MY Superintendent of choice would keep all of the kids up late the night at a party the night before FCAT (Prom, maybe?) and deny breakfast/snacks on the day of the test. You gotta learn how to "work the system".

Elmo, I hate to agee that things aren't likely to improve in this public school system but it is true. It seems that the system works harder at checking off a box on some form than actually improving the education of the students. Why would anyone subject their children to the out of control situation at the public schools if they had a choice?
After my daughter spent a couple of years at Madison County Central School and I saw that there was no control of the children, I moved her to Madison Academy. She had a great experience at the Academy. It was so different than at MCCS.
The first step toward improvement is to replace the top level administration at the county office and then if the school principals can't or won't control their schools, then they should be replaced.

Great stuff. Kids now are on a roll of everything for nothing. No respect at all, don't want to learn just have life easy and everything handed to them. But sooner are later it will catch up with them.

Dobbie, your comment is right on target. Responsibility for learning eventully falls to the kids and the impact of the poor behavior will also fall on the kids. However, our school system and maybe most public school systems makes excuses for poor behavior and gives kids grades they haven't earned. Kids that don't learn to take responsibility for their actions and the results will grow up to be a drain on our society.

There's no mystery here. Go to a football game. Stand by the fence next to the field. Look at the players then look at the stands. Then come back here and post.

Crist had a chance to sign the bill that would pay teachers on Merit rather than seniority and he gave in to the Teachers Union and didn't sign it. i guess he was thinking he could pick up votes for his senate seat run...however, most teachers vote Democrat, so his ability to change our school system went away chalked up to a bad bet.

I have no idea why MCHS is an F rated school. Since the Madison County schools can't seem to get their act together I am forced to homeschool my child. It is such a disappointment to not be able to send my son off to school to get an education like I got. I feel as if he is cheated out of so many experiences. My son is very bright academically no thanks to Madison County. Homeschooling a child is a lot of work but I simply can't justify sending my child to a school where he would receive nothing but a poor education.

You can't teach anyone how to do something if you don't know yourself. We have a few good teachers. and a few students that want to learn. Its said that history repeats itsself, well there is some I wish would get repeated.

A-Dumb kids flying bye doing nothing being late skipping school never getting detention or anything because of who their parents were
B-I got into fights with them when they brough religion into EVERYTHING, even science class. so of course i got F's and detentions.
then they tried to tell me the school runs on military time.
