Watched WCTV News last night, I see Madison was ranked third in the Big Bend area from the bottom in the FCAT scores for this past year (beating out Hamilton County and Jefferson County). I'm sure Lou Miller and her school board members must be proud of the constant low rating results in FCAT. Not sure if there is a company or business out there that would continue to keep these low performing individuals on their payroll.

I agree that the scores should be better. I've seen some of our schools up close while my children were students. I didn't like a lot of things that are being done. An example is that all children at the high school had to take a remedial class that was supposed to help them on the FCAT. This even included kids that scored 4 or 5 last year. This was a total waste of time for these students. They could have spent their time in an acedemic class instead.
However, I must say that some of the teachers give 100% to the effort and that includes spending their own money to buy supplies. As a matter of fact, I know at least one teacher that spent ~$500 dollars of her own money last year. The performance of their students on the FCAT may not always be high if the students were already very low when they came to their class. This is due to many factors beyond the teacher's control. Is it fair to judge these teachers only on the scores of these students?
